Celebrating Luca’s Inspiring Progress at Songbird

A man with a broad smile, wearing a Star Wars t-shirt, beige shorts, and a straw hat, is energetically drumming with sticks on an exercise ball in a group activity setting. Several other participants can be seen in the background, engaging in the same activity with large exercise balls and buckets.

Luca’s story is just one of the many inspiring journeys we witness here at Songbird. His progress in the Drums Alive program has been nothing short of remarkable, and we’re thrilled to share his achievements. With the dedicated support of Emily, his 1:1 staff member, Luca’s journey showcases how individualised care and encouragement can spark incredible growth and confidence for each participant.

When Luca first joined the Thursday group, he needed regular breaks to self-regulate. Now, he’s thriving—immersing himself fully in each session and only taking breaks when necessary. It’s a testament to his resilience and the positive environment we strive to create!

Luca’s newfound confidence extends beyond the sessions, too. Once hesitant to drink outside of his home, he now enjoys 3 to 4 cups of water during Drums Alive and is eagerly trying new foods outside his comfort zone. It’s wonderful to watch his confidence grow and that big smile we are so accustomed to now!

One of the most inspiring aspects of Luca’s progress is his increasing comfort in social settings. He now confidently joins his peers at the table, exploring new words on his iPad, and recently led the group by ‘coaching’ his first song—an incredible milestone!

Luca’s journey is one of many that highlight the power of support, patience, and connection. At Songbird, we’re proud to witness such stories of growth every day, and we look forward to celebrating even more milestones along the way.

Two individuals are standing outside in a sunny area, both smiling broadly. The man on the left is giving a thumbs-up and is wearing a straw hat, sunglasses on his head, and a t-shirt with the "Flight of the Navigator" design. The person on the right is wearing sunglasses and has face paint on, capturing a cheerful, sunlit moment.  A young man in a dark blue NASA t-shirt is seated at a table, giving a thumbs-up with a wide smile. He appears to be working on a colorful beading project. Behind him, exercise balls are lined up in a well-lit room.   A man and a woman are sitting comfortably on a beige sofa, smiling widely while enjoying popsicles. The man is wearing a white t-shirt with the movie design of "Flight of the Navigator," and the woman is in a dark blue shirt, both looking joyful and relaxed.
