What Are The Benefits?

Autonomy And Agency

SIL encourages you to live the life you choose. It’s all about facilitating confidence and self-determination, offering regular opportunities to develop the independent skills needed for day-to-day living.

At our homes for independent living, you can achieve a sense of freedom and accomplishment while still receiving the supports required to fulfil your potential.

Social Bonds

Moving into disability accomodation doesn’t demand distance from family and friends – Loved ones are welcome to pay a visit at any time. However, it does widen the scope for building new friendships and becoming an active member of the surrounding community.

Living in a group home for adults with disabilities allows you to strengthen your interpersonal skills and foster meaningful relationships – Whether it’s participating in inclusive day programs, bonding with housemates who share similar interests or interacting with locals as they go about daily activities.

Around-The-Clock Care

Songbird’s disability accommodation has been designed to combine comfortable living with accessible support.

Our dedicated and qualified team provide 24/7 onsite assistance so that when you need us, we’re there.

We assist with personal care and build on practical abilities for tasks like cleaning, cooking and taking public transportation.

Living In Disability Accommodation With Songbird

Our SIL service provides accessible accommodation for people with disabilities to live an ordinary life unrestrained by disability. At Songbird, we believe in creating safe and supportive accommodation for all of our SIL participants. Together, we will secure the right disability accommodation for you.

Our independent living specialists understand that you would like choice regarding where you live, who you live with, and much more. That’s why we listen very carefully, getting to know your personality and preferences so that you are paired with a compatible housemate in a desired location.

We may be able to offer you a vacancy within one of our existing supported independent living communities, which take up to four participants. If not, we can work with you to establish a new Songbird home – There may already be one in the pipeline!

Who Is Songbird’s Supported Independent Living For?

Our supported accommodation is the perfect option for adults with complex disabilities wanting to strike a balance between assistance and independence in their daily lives. Songbird’s SIL services cater to those who require full-time support, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

If you’re aged 18 or over, living with a disability and looking to change your accomodation arrangements, we’d love to talk to you about how we can help.

Our supported independent living accommodation caters to residents 24 hours a day, every day. With disability housing available across the Hunter region, please call our expert team on (02) 4048 4220 to chat about your options. Together, we’ll find you the perfect home for your needs.

To reside in a Songbird property, your NDIS package must include SIL funding. We are happy to work with you to determine and apply for the funding you need.

When it comes to SIL funding, you will be eligible for one of three levels:

Lower needs: Help with, and/or supervision of, daily living tasks. In general, 24/7 support is not provided.

Standard needs: 24/7 assistance with, and/or supervision of, day-to-day functioning. This includes overnight support.

Higher needs: Continuous support with all daily activities, as well as challenging behaviour management and care for complex medical requirements.

After you submit an expression of interest in our supported independent living services, it typically takes three months to get your new home ready. We make the most of this time, finding you the right accommodation and preparing it for your arrival.

No. This is called Board and Lodgings and is payable by you. SIL funding covers the support you receive from our staff within the home. For a more detailed breakdown of your funding and what it includes, please call our friendly team on (02) 4048 4220.

Our shared housing is created with care. We provide single-level group homes that are fitted with a range of resources and supports, as well as private bedrooms and bathrooms!

Of course! Each of our residents is a valued member of their household, contributing to daily routines, chores and decisions. Whether it’s getting together for a weekly housemate meeting or creating a list of shared responsibilities each day, we will work out the best way to manage your shared home together.
